Kolossi Castle
Kolossi Castle
Rising above the fertile plains just west of Limassol, Kolossi Castle is a striking example of medieval military architecture and one of Cyprus’ most important historical landmarks.
Originally built in the 13th century by the Knights of St John, the castle served as a strategic stronghold and administrative centre, closely linked to the production of sugar and the famous Commandaria wine. The structure you see today dates mainly to the 15th century and has been remarkably well preserved.
Highlights
- Impressive medieval tower with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside
- Strong links to the Knights Hospitaller and crusader history
- Nearby ruins of the sugar mill and vineyards tied to Commandaria wine
